The Vine: coming up

by loren on April 25, 2010 0 Comments

Treb's been great while we developed the concept for his paining at the Vine. We are excited to debut a new style canvas that reaches back to the triptichs of the Middle Ages. I think we're also going to sneak some Helvetica Neue Condensed in there too. We're artists with a definite designer bend.

Just for kicks, we're still pretty open for late summer and fall- give us a shout and we'll come out!

Painting at the OKC Thunder Game

by loren on April 5, 2010 0 Comments

Friend of Rockwagon, Wishing Well International had a booth in the concourse during the OKC-Portland home game. They hired us to come out and paint to grab attention. We ended up raffling it off and we should be delivering the painting the the lucky lady who won it soon. Just going to put some clear coat over it first!

Had a great time, met great people, performed this painting:

The Prayer of Pistol Pete Maravitch

We got our inspiration from the life of the famous "Pistol" Pete Maravitch and his antics. If you don't know his story, it's worth looking into.

Looking forward to more events with the Thunder crowd!

Boston: March 23-27 Available

Loren's wife (TEFLope.com) found out Saturday night that her presentation has been selected for the graduate foum at the TESOL conference. (So stinking proud.) While this is a great opportuniy for her, Loren still needs to earn his plane ticket.

That being said, ANY venue (or Individual for that matter) looking for live perfomance of painting in the Boston Metro during that week is encouraged to email HERE to get a ridiculous, unlikely to repeat, incintive of 60% off of regular Rockwagon pricing.

This could mean having a full-sized comission painted for you for as little as $175 (≈$450 value).

Again this is an extreamly rare opportunity for Wednesday, March 24th through the morning of Saturday, the 27th.

Get it while it's hot! (thats now)

Sign me up!

Additionally, if you are not in the Boston area, or your taste (budget) for art is smaller, please visit ...

Failing to plan = Planning to fail

by loren on January 11, 2010 0 Comments

Our fears about Winterfest proved true. When the finally contacted us one month from Arlington, we had a good feeling that it was going to be a bust for us. 3 plans later and we're no longer involved in this year's festivities. The good news is that Dudley wants to sit down and work on a PLAN for next year soon. we are very excited about actually recieving some communication for next years plans.

This serves as a good proof to us that if we feel like there's not enough information coming down the pipe, there's a real problem we need to get after.

On a somewhat unrelated note, we will now be taking non-refundable deposits to hold dates on our calendar.

The Process

by loren on December 22, 2009 0 Comments

On a certain level the process of creativity is very simple. It can be summed up in this way:

Design problem → research → design as an answer to the problem.

As long as there are problems (in communication, function, aestetics, etc.) people will enlist creativity to help them go through this process endlessly. As such, there will always by a place for innovation and creativity in nearly all fields. Painting is simply the one we've chosen to run with for now.

Kyle and I have been meeting like crazy this week. Today we sat down with Pastors Josh and David from Frontline and did some good connecting on the Warrior Poet series. I think what we agreed on is that we would break the series into 4 chapters of King David's life and we will paint one piece at the conclusion of each chapter. This should have us painting about every month and a half. Cool, but we;ll have to stay on top of this to make sure it really stays cohesive. We've never drug out a broject over 6 months before. but hey- great stuff takes time, right?

After that meeting I had to go back to work, but Kyle went on to Edmond to mee with Dudley (if you're out there Dudley, we're not college kids anymore, we can't meet you in your ...

The Vine

by loren on December 2, 2009 0 Comments

Pastor Treb sat down with us yesterday for lunch at Falcone's to talk about what we could be doing in the city. He's a pretty neat guy. He immediately understood the impact that multi-stage art projects could have, depending on where and when they are performed.

One of the ideas that we talked about is booking ourselves in a bar or a night club on Saturday night, painting the first half of a painting, then finishing it the next morning at a church service. It was cool to see him really start to get excited about the possibilities. The pizza was good too.

Loren stopped by our friend David's store on Broadway. He's going to have a wine tasting in January and gave Loren the nod for putting his art up for that. Kyle will have his are up for all of January at Coffee Slingers ...

The Veil, Warrior Poet, and lunch tomorrow with The Vine

by loren on November 30, 2009 0 Comments

We have some exciting stuff lined up for the next couple months:

For winterfest, we're rigging up some enormous contraption that will be our 'veil'- sketches on that to come soon.

Sooner than that We're working with Frontline Chruch in downtown OKC to put together paintings for their series on the attributes of King David. The series is called "Warrior Poet" and we are very excited to be a part of it. Kyle and I have talked about using the scripture of him being "After God's own heart" as a way to preaking the paintings in to 4 atriums of a heart and going very sculpural with the whole piece.

Tomorrow we're meeting with The Vine's Senior Pastor to talk about opportunities to use art at Westminster Presbyterian's community church plant at Will's Lobby Bar. All I know about that so far is ...

Work Hanging at Coffee Slingers

by loren on May 20, 2009 0 Comments

Loren:
I've had my paintings hanging at Coffee Slingers since the first of the month. I'll be moving Saul and St. Francis to the reception site at our friend's wedding for a few hours. As part of their decorations, they are committed to supporting local artists along with their myriad of other causes. After the wedding, I'll try and sneak the paintings back up on the wall. I've gotten a lot of great responses from people who have seen my work there. I'd like to show my work on Automobile Alley again soon.
I'm working out the details on having my work up at Convergence Collective, the space where Fusion meets (an emergent Christian community).
Still trying to figure out what to make of our contact with Rex Barnett of Project OKC. He's got contacts everywhere and he's on board with ...
